A Question People Largely Avoid Answering

Is a preference for the dissimilar morally superior to a preference for the similar?

  1. This only becomes a MORAL question when the preference is directed at something that involves morality. If I prefer something "different," it depends upon what that is. I may prefer Italian food to Irish food though most of my background is Celtic. This is a matter of taste and has no moral component. On the other hand, I may prefer to associate with people who are like myself. Again, there is no moral component in that. Indeed, most people prefer to socialize where they are most comfortable.

It is only when an individual's preferences are driven by immoral motives that morality enters into the matter at all.
