Corey, the Treaty of Ghent was signed December 24, 1814, ending the war, but it took two flippin' months for the news of it to get across the Atlantic. The battle of New Orleans was fought in early to mid-January, well before news of the treaty reached the USA. Moreover, even though the war was officially over, an overwhelming number of British troops threatened New Orleans and had to be stopped. Jackson's forces were from Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana militia. The South won the war of 1812 just like it won the American Revolution.
They're not Jealous. They were just taught that the AWI was fought and won on the outskirts of Boston and that George Washington was some kind of vaguely New England type character. As for the War of 1812, Massachusetts didn't approve, so it wasn't a legitimate war, anyway. The Yankees didn't seem to get too worked up over the British Army burning the White House, either. But then, the North is a different country, with wholly different other national interests and priorities. It implies as much, in their textbooks. The Union® is a political fiction. Everything that happened up to 1860, proves that.
Corey isn't deeply indoctrinated. He's deeply patriotic. For his nation. Not ours. After 1865, the Northern nation became the United States. The two are synonymous. On a map, the sixteen Civil War® Era states are America®, the other thirtyfour, where the food and gas come from, and where disgenic monsters, who think they have the same rights as Yankees, live. You can't get upset with Corey for defending his nation. It's when these characters schizophrenically insist that we're all equals and on the same level, while insisting on the superior status of their states and themselves, that it gets aggravating. They want the benefits of the Union®, while retaining the benefits of a distinct, independent nation with its own national interests. With these people, North, South, Union®, shift status and meaning according to political expediency. Even Lincoln alternately recognised and denied the existence of the Confederacy, as it suited his purposes. You can get mad, or you can throw it back in their faces and watch 'em squirm.
Didn't some folks in New England actually support the British in the War of 1812, making them traitors?
Yes, they did. But they're not traitors®. Anything Yankees do is patriotic. They have superior authority over the United State and supra rights in this supposed Union® of equals. It says so, in the Constitution. It's only when non Yankee types take them up on their rhetoric, and try to exercise the rights that they claim we all have, that it's a crime.
I guess what I'm trying to say with this long winded rambling, is that we're dealing with a hostile, foreign nation that thinks it's all of us, while still being them.
Corey. Pay attention. TEDNOLA were the ones who said it was a monument to white supremacy. Take it up with them.

ReplyDeleteWhy are you yankees so jealous of us?

DeleteYes, Corey. The revolution was won at the Battle of King's Mountain by the Overmountain Men of western Virginia and eastern Tennessee.
Delete"...a different country, with wholly different other national interest and priorities."
DeleteMan, you said it, James. Up to 1860 -- and afterward, too. To this day.

Corey is deeply indoctrinated and has tunnel vision.
