(More) Drumming Up Hatred for the South

And floggers say there's no hate for the South...  From the ultra-leftist Daily Beast:

The Tragic History of Southern Food

Some of the more foul-tasting morsels:
[Paula] Deen’s plight furnished an operatic fable about the South: the Southern lady who celebrates the grand table at the expense of black women...

The [pre-civil rights] white South was caught in a freeze-frame fantasy of the plantation era...

White Southerners crave an innocent past, a personal distance from the sins of their ancestors.
Look, folks. How about a little dose of reality, here. Both Aunt Jemima and her flour were creations of the Midwest (Kansas and Chicago), not Dixie.  Google "Aunt Jemima" and Chris Rutt, Charles Underwood, and Pearl Milling Company.

Article concludes with this:  [The author] Ferris is a member of Southern Foodways Alliance, a group of scholars, writers, chefs, restaurateurs, documentarians, and enthusiasts who explore the culinary culture with hope for regional redemption. Southern Foodways Alliance, huh? Sounds like the floggers of the culinary world.

First of all, the region doesn't need redemption any more than any other region does. It needs respite from people like this drumming up hate for it with their own twists, distortions and sometimes outright fantasies. It needs respite from nonSouthern sins being renamed Southern and then used as verbal whips against Southerners, particularly white ones. It needs respite from constant evilization to make the rest of the country look innocent and lofty by comparison, so it can continue to sweep its own sins under the rug, sanitize them, perfume them -- AND give nonSoutherners the warm fuzzies of moral superiority, who will take them, cling to them, and wrap themselves in them, even when they're fraudulent.

And some people wonder why we want to secede.

  1. I guess you could write such articles about the North. "The Dull, Uninteresting History of Obnoxious, Boring People, Bland, Weird Food and Cultureless Culture." I believe I'll take chicken fried steak, green beans, mashed taters and pepper gravy with biscuits, over "chili spaghetti" and Papa's John's latest, revolting pizza creations, any day. Keeping in mind the aforementioned Yankee treats, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer, often features BBQ and other Southern cooking . This is proof, indeed, that the North is in fact, a different nation and people. "Fellow countrymen", I think not.

    1. Oh yeah, I remember an episode of Bizarre Foods where he was eating clams, shrimp and grits, and crawdads. I hate the way they portray us on TV, I really do. They make normal stuff look like it's supposed to be strange, and they always tend to demean us even if they're not trying to. Not to mention every time you see black people on TV, they act like the food they're eating is "black/soul food" when really it's just what everyone eats in the South.

I grew up drinking cool aid, sweet tea, and eating watermelon and fried chicken. It ain't "soul food", it's Southern food. Of course, they don't know that living up North in them big cities, where Yankees don't know nothing about our cuisine. To them, only black people eat that kind of food.

    2. They cain't hep it, Logan. They wasn't taught no better.

    3. I saw that episode too, Logan. That's just Gulf Coast cooking to me. I saw an episode of America's Test Kitchen., once. They had an all Boston cast and cooked "classic American dishes" that nobody outside of New England ever heard of, much less ate. Yet BBQ and pinto beans and cornbread are considered bizarre. The Yankee propaganda machine has reached the point of being as ridiculous as it is insane and hypocritical. And I've had enough of it, too..

  2. Alton Brown during a scene in a Southern food documentary of some sorts said that Southrons didn't know how to cook after the civil war, because we had black people make all our food, and that all our food was invented by slaves. Can you believe the idiocy of that bold claim? What about the 97% of Southrons who didn't own slaves? Did they just sit around the Plantation mansions hoping they could get the scraps? They'd come from far and near, sit outside the mansion, looking into the windows with puppy dog eyes?

    1. Well, I think it was about 85% of Southerners who didn't own slaves. It was approx. 97% of Americans before secession who didn't own slaves. Even so, 85 percent of some 6 million white folks not knowing how to cook would have been been an enormously noticeable circumstance...LOL! South bashers come off as conspicuously idiotic, many times....

    2. The worst part of it all, is that when Yankees move to Atlanta (this is where Alton was having his interview, and is apparently a resident of) they automatically assume they know everything there is to know about the South. HA! Atlanta hasn't been the "South" since reconstruction, sad to say.

    3. They're that way all over the South, and sentiments such as your found their way into the mouths of my Sweet Southern Boys....

"What is it about Bratcher that makes him such a crappy human being?" Randy asked his companion as they watched Shelby's truck turn onto the street and roll out of sight.

"He's just been a pain in the butt ever since we've known him."

      "I know, but why?"

John Mark shrugged. "Who knows? Because he's a yankee?"

"I'd like to know what he's got against Shelby."

"I don't know, but I'm tired of it. Today was just over the top. That incest-inbreeding stereotype is gross enough when it's aimed at good, decent Southerners in general -- you know, the family trees that don't branch and all that garbage -- but hassling Shelby with it, with Ainsley right there... I almost wish he would've coldcocked him. I almost wish I had."

Randy squinted from the thoughts going through his mind. "Yankees get their knowledge from books and classrooms and professors, not from looking at the real world and real people. They read Faulkner, they think they know everything there is to know about Southerners."

      "Well, they don't."

"They don't understand honor, either. Or loyalty. Bratcher was being his usual bigoted self today, and when it comes to Shelby, he has no idea just how far off base he is."

    4. They don't realise that the South has different regions and that there is a difference between the Carolinas and Louisiana and Texas, as well as many similarities, which Yankees can't tell, but we can. Assuming what they assume, is like thinking that living in Dallas will tell you about Nashville. But they're Yankees, and they know it better.😉

    5. James, you are so right about this. I've lived in four Southern states and seven Southern cities/towns/communities, and they are all unique, each having its own distinctiveness. But they are all the South, they all feel like home, and they all evoke in me the feeling of belonging. Even places in the South where I haven't lived, just traveled through or visited, feel like home. I have a very strong sense that I belong to the South, and it belongs to me, to us, to we Southerners. It's ours.

    6. Even within a single State are different regions with different cultures. Shoot, moving from one town to the other can be a "culture shock" sometimes.

  3. And speaking of hate for the South --

    http://cwcrossroads.wordpress.com/2014/11/11/a-reminder-on-111114/

Buck Buchanan comment. ” As a retired United States Army Infantry Officer I’d say its about time to get get a few brigades of US Regulars together and head South the finish off these traitors once and for all.”

I am banned from Shrimpson's blog so I replied on Cold Southern Steel --

"Hey Bucky why don’t YOU come on down and get started by yourself??? Are you as brave as you are ignorant?? I live in Gulfport, Miss. That would be a good place to start.'

Go ahead Jimmy Dick post what I said. Oh and you are welcome to bring your bad self with Bucky.

    1. Reply to Bucky: "Bring it."

George, do you suppose Bucky doesn't know that Southerners disproportionately populate all the branches of the Armed Forces? And that they know how to fight? And that they are, and will remain, loyal to the US of A until and unless the US of A sends people down here to kill us? I think Bucky's idea is one he would massively regret, should he ever try it.

    2. I see a lot of Yankees bring that up "Shotguns vs jets lol", like we don't have our own part of the military. God forbid a war breaks out, but I think we'd have the upper hand with our numbers and industry this time around.

    3. According to the GAO, recruits from the old Union States, that is, the states that invaded Dixie, are less than 1% of recruits. The bulk of the recruits come from the South and the West. In some towns in the deep North, I'd speculate that they'd be doing good just to find ten vets for a Veteran's Day parade. For all their supposed patriotism, they don't do much but complain and blame the South.

      Delete
    4. The irony Logan, is that all those jets are built in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Georgia. The Hellfire missiles one Yankee wanted to use, are made in Georgia. I know too many x G.I.s, some of them friends since childhood, who've had enough of Yankees and their constant passive aggressive whining and threats, and blaming the South for their problems. I suspect a great many other Southrons feel the same way. But being adults, not spoiled, angry children, they keep it to themselves.

    5. You know I just can't get over anyone advocating genocide in the United States. What exactly is this idiots problem? I want to go on record as saying Bucky Boy is one vet I will never respect or honor.

It also should be noted that there are a couple of comments in the same light posted there. And I believe Simpson and his crew have the same feelings since he allowed trash like that on his blog.

Hate in America --- Fox news should do a special.

    6. You gotta remember that to these folks, America is just the North. The sixteen states that invaded Dixie. The South and West are where the food and gas come from, or places to retire to from the cold. To them, the people that live here are colonial serfs who should just shut up and obey the real Americans in the North, their masters, at best, or at worst, they're just another Indian tribe to be got out of the way. These people live in a different world because the North is a different country. But for peculiar circumstances, they would have never been a part of our country. But they still would have been aggressive and hostile and waged a war against us. They would have had to invent a different pretext. Their Puritan forefathers made them that way. They'll always be our enemy, no matter what.

    7. True. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When I go to SW Mississippi, where I am from, it is like walking into a different world.
