Is This Why He Sends Flowers to a Funeral?

(I mean, assuming he does such a thing.)

~ Or ~

REWARD! NOTICE TO FLOGGERS.  REWARD! REWARD!

Link to any post where I have said,
"It’s not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes, it’s about making oneself feel self-righteous and mighty good. The display of the Confederate flag in the Lee Chapel is primarily to appease the living, not to honor the dead."
You have until July 30th to provide the link and the quote.

The reward? I will make no posts on Backsass until January 1, 2015.

Rules: Copy and paste the passage I have written that says what Simpson claims.  Add a link to the post with the passage in it.  Put it in a comment following this post. Remember, the passage written by me has to say what Simpson has claimed, to wit:
"Remember, folks: as leading Confederate heritage advocate Connie Chastain says, it’s not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes, it’s about making oneself feel self-righteous and mighty good. The display of the Confederate flag in the Lee Chapel is primarily to appease the living, not to honor the dead.

Someone should remind the Virginia Flaggers of what Chastain says the next time they pretend that their display of Confederate banners is to honor the Confederate soldier … and that flying those banners is not something Lee would have liked in any case."
Yes, he flatout said "Connie Chastain says..." so you have to find where I have said, "... it’s not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes, it’s about making oneself feel self-righteous and mighty good." You can't link to some other post I have made and falsely spin/construe it to mean what Simpson has said. None of this, "Well, this means the same thing..." He said I said it. You have to find where I said it.

Everybody can tell already that Backsass will be going strong the rest of the year, because Simpson hasn't simply mis-understood or mis-reported what I said.

He is flatout lying.

Here's what I said,
" ... the flags in the chapel alcove serve the same purpose as flowers at a funeral. They are for the living, for those who remember and honor."
For those who remember and honor Who really thinks that says, "...it's not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes"? How is remembering and honoring not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes?

FOR THOSE WHO REMEMBER AND HONOR. Somehow, that went right over Simpson's head. Did he miss it? Or is he ignoring it in order to lie, defame, smear, denigrate and disparage? How did he get "making oneself feel self-righteous and mighty good," out of remembering and honoring?

The analogy I used was the act of sending flowers to a funeral. Now, maybe Simpson sends flowers in order to make himself feel self-righteous and mighty good (and it wouldn't surprise me at all); but most people do it to the memory and for the honor of the deceased.

(Note: As far as I can tell, the only appeasing going on is the administration at Washington and Lee appeasing a tiny, I mean tiny, handful of student spite-activists.)

  2. Connie, this is a brilliant challenge. You will show up Simpleton for the liar and cheap propaganda artist that he is. My hat's off to ya.

  3. Simpson is a grotesque lying pig, and he is supported by grotesque lying pigs like Baker and Jimmy Dick. Neither of those three slimy lowlife miscreants will claim the reward, that I will state with 100 per cent ontological certitude.

  4. This is too funny. Baker leaves a coment, "He paraphrased you....he didn't quote you. There is a big difference there."

Big difference, indeed. So big it totally changes the meaning of what I said.

Absolutely nothing in what I wrote means this: "It’s not about honoring the past or Confederate heroes, it’s about making oneself feel self-righteous and mighty good. The display of the Confederate flag in the Lee Chapel is primarily to appease the living, not to honor the dead."

  5. Baker is a habitual liar and a pathetic knuckle-dragging moron. This is expected of him.

PS-Any idea how many anti-Flagger posts the sleazeball white professor with the English speaking white blog has written since he dishonestly declared that he was "bored" with the Flaggers? And any idea how many posts he has written in a language other than English since his blog community got all gushy and teary-eyed over the Coke commercial?

  6. Bakur thinks I need to "amplify" my meaning of this, "They are for the living, for those who remember and honor."

Then he sez the flags put up by the VaFlaggers and the ones at the chapel are for the living -- those who honor and remember. He sez, "The flags themselves do not do this act, but they are for the people who do."

Well, duh. Of course the flags don't do it themselves. They can't hoist themselves up a flagstaff. They can't wave themselves when the wind's not blowing. They are inanimate objects, without sentience, intelligence, will or intent.

I can't believe how people are missing the analogy of flowers at a funeral. The flowers are a visible manifestation FOR THE LIVING to express their honor of the deceased.

In the case of heritage supporters, Confederate flags are visible manifestations of their honor primarily for the soldiers, their spirit and fight, their unbelievable courage and stamina, their unimaginable suffering and death... The flags are also to honor the causes for which he fought -- defense of home, family and community, political independence, etc. And, finally, they can also honor the people of the Confederacy -- the politicians, the farmers, the merchants, the wives, mothers, children... factory workers like the Roswell women and other civilian victims of the yankee army's atrocities.

Also, for some of us -- in fact, probably for many of us -- the flag came to include the symbolization, over the generations, of the South as a region. It expressed the region's distinctiveness from the rest of the country, and the South's pride in that distinctiveness -- aka "Southern pride."

But the way heritage advocates use it, it is a visible manifestation of their honor and commemoration of the soldiers.

    1. He and the other Flogger tokens aren't missing the analogy Connie, they're being deliberately obtuse. There's no way even a politically correct mindset can have that huge a disconnect.

  7. Bakur, re: the students. The flags were in a CHAPEL, not a flippin' classroom.

  8. Austin, I take it you don't care for Rob, Well he ain't on my Christmas card list either. But he's no Dummy, that's what makes him so dangerous, On the top he presents a Balanced Presentation, but it's the under tow that will get ya.
The other day he left me a comment and told me I was Bias !!!
Well "LA TEE DA" I don't deny it, my blog's name tells you what side I'm on. "ATrueConfederate" DUAH !! Ain't no rocket science involved with that name !!!!
I don't lie, I do make mistakes, but I call em like I see em.
If Rob ever gets wisdom to go along with his book learnin -- " LOOK OUT" He will make Simpson look like an amateur.
Right now he's young and thinks he's invulnerable. Add that to his authoritative view of himself and that sums him up,
He's young and thinks he knows it all.

  9. Rob, education/learning and honoring/commemorating are not mutually exclusive. The flags are not "with" the students. They are -- or were -- hanging in one small, specific place. Students "going into" the chapel for "educational purposes" is extremely limited, timewise, from what I've read. It's likely that students can go for weeks or months on end -- perhaps, basically, the whole school year -- without laying eyes on the flags.

The Committee is a bunch of junior civil-rights wannabees. They're engaging in spite activism. I think Brandon Hicks' "trauma" over the flags, Lee-Jackson day commemorations, etc., is put on, made up, a fabrication, brought up in interviews for attention... like the demands themselves. He's from North Carolina, for cyin' out loud. This ain't the first time he's seen Confederate flags.

If honoring Lee as president of the university is appropriate, but honoring him as the most illustrious general in the Confederate military, then the statue, the Recumbent Lee, will be targeted, because it depicts him not as a college president but as a Confederate general, in uniform, sleeping as if in his field tent, sword at the ready.

You mark my words. It is coming.

Dave, I don't much care for the language Austin uses sometimes, but his cynical observations about our critics are pretty much right on the money. I don't think Rob is a moron, but he certainly isn't smart enough to be dangerous. I think he's more shrewd than smart. Whatever native common sense he may have had at one time was either obliterated, or made dormant, by his edu-ma-cation. I don't see his views as balanced. I see him throwing in everything but the kitchen sink, trying to make his case. I don't see him as particularly knowledgeable ... or rather, with him, knowledge is subservient to purpose, goal or methodology.

Like all the floggers, he possess and exhibits a conspicuous self-righteousness accompanied by an unwillingness to even admit it. If anything will make him dangerous at some point down the road, it is his self-righteousness

    1. Third paragraph above should read, "If honoring Lee as president of the university is appropriate, but honoring him as the most illustrious general in the Confederate military is not appropriate, then..."

  10. Regarding Baker, suffice it to say that I disagree sharply. He is most certainly a buffoon, and he is filled with ideas he doesn't understand in the least. His education credentials are, in fact, quite minimal, and they are from lousy, fourth-rate institutions. Baker is a dime-a-dozen limousine-liberal fraud, and too stupid and uninformed to be dangerous to anyone but himself.
